Stages

Decision Chess has up to three stages in a play of the game with the first being mandatory.

The Playing Stage
  • This is when both players pick and play a move as per the normal rules of Decision Chess.
  • Games with just this mode enabled may be timed and have increments applied to timers after a move.
    • Timers are paused for that side only when a move is played and both start again once both are played together.

For the next two stages, there is a UI card element that will display the currently played move from the first stage as coordinates, these are called Simple subvariants.

  • In the Suggestive subvariants, players must click on a square to "suggest" after playing a move. These are instead displayed in the next stages during the Playing Stage.
The Reveal Stage
  • This is where the players have the option of communicating with the opponent after moves have been shared. Both players must click Ready to proceed.
The Decision Stage
  • This is where a five-second countdown is started. Each player has a chance to reset the game to the Playing Stage without the played moves being made.
  • Should this stage be enabled, this can be done twice during any game with the third time resulting in a loss (to be changed to a maximum of three times with no loss penalty).
